Tornado at Locust Grove Farm

From early summer in Ontario, Lansdowne. Drunken bees burrow into the bark of Honey Locusts or hover amongst the blossoms, their humm temporarily silenced by a tornado.

Betty Boop Quilt

I started making quilts around the same time that I learned about the Quilts of Gee’s Bend out of Alabama – beautifully wonky quilts that inspire imperfection. Corners not square? Stitches uneven? No problem! They are beautiful because they are made by hand, not by machine.

This quilt includes fabrics from the last 13 years of my life. It has no batting and soft flannel backing, so it is very light and perfect for a little bit of extra warmth on a cool summer night. Like my recent degree, this project took over 2 years from start to finish. One more thing crossed off the list!

Hello Tulips!

One more day of sunshine and we will seriously be in business.

Tenacity Socks

I started this knitting project on the Pacific Ocean and finished it overlooking the Atlantic. Although I’ve started many a sock in my day, and despite a myriad of pattern snafus and unravellings, this is the first pair that I have actually finished. Introducing my tenacious bicoastal footwear. . .

Goodbye Outhouse

Texture Study: Chocolate Crinkles

The Ponderosa Pine trees, after being charred by regular forest fires in the Oregon Cascades, look an awful lot like my favorite cookie.

Also in these forests: a strong smell of sage, sunshine, and dried pine needles. Chartreuse Old Man’s Beard clinging to the trees, and spring-fed emerald lakes. A lovely place to spend some of my first warm sunny days of 2011.
